Promotion.... What's That???

At, Tech High School, it's a tradition for the underclassmen to experience the promotion ceremony, which is moving up from one class to the next. The senior class are leaving which means that the bleachers in Tech's gym are going crazy, especially the junior section. The junior are next in line to be the head of the school and become the next generation and role models. This is a special day to many people to become the seniors who are only here for one more year and have been here the longest and runs the school for just a lil bit. I love this time of the year. I look forward to it every year and it gives me the best challenges and the best outlook on m future. Get ready because now is the time to shine class of 2011 seniors!

Do natural hair shops not exist?

FIRST AND FOREMOST THIS IS JUST AN OPINON! DURING MY PROCESS OF BEING A YOUNG TEENAGER GOING NATURAL, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT IS VERY HARD TO FIND A SHOP FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN WHO ARE NATURAL YET ALONE A DECENT AFRICAN AMERICAN SHOP PERIOD! IT SEEMS TO AMAZES ME THAT I CALLED EIGHT SHOPS AND ALL OF THEM ANSWERED THE PHONE WITH A RUDE ATTITUDE, ALONG WITH ACTUALLY GOING TO A SHOP AND MY APPOINTMENT WAS AT SIX YET I HAD TO WAIT 55 MINUTES WITH NO ONE TO COME AND LET ME KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. GOING NATURAL IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT CHALLENGES A FRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN WHO IS USE TO A PERM COULD EVER DO. I SAY THIS BECAUSE A LOT OF BLACK WOMAN CANT HANDLE THE NATURAL CURLY TEXTURE WHICH IS A VERY DIFFERENT THAN THE NORMAL STRAIGHT. I AM VERY PROUD TO STAND UP TO THE ROAD THAT MANY BLACK WOMAN DONT TAKE! I LOVE PERM HAIR AS WELL I JUST ALSO WANT TO TAKE A DIFFERENT ROUTE. So Trey Songs New Album "Ready" definitely shows his grown and sexy side more than any of his other albums. With songs blazing the charts,cell phones,computers,Ipods,mp3 players and of course the tv screen. Neighbors Know My Name,Ready,Holla If you need me,are some of the song titles just to name a few. The video of "Neighbors Know My Name" is a prime example of how he's changed and truly come up in the industry.

This video in my eyes is a little to much to bare. This shows how sex really sells. this is his number 1 single and has definitely made an impact on his career.

Rappers promoting drugs?

So the question of this video, is Ludacris promoting drugs? Even though the song is about marijuana was it necessary for him to show all of this in his video? In my opinion it wasn't. When I first heard this song I thought it was funny and I pictured the video was probably equally hilarious. I didn't picture that the video would be of a rapper I liked doing something REALLY illegal. This video makes it seem like he is really trying to promote smoking marijuana and that makes me nervous. I don't approve of this because my nephews listen to Ludacris and the thought that he is promoting drugs knowing that younger kids listen to his music is ridiculous. What type of person makes it seem like it’s alright to ruin your brain with an illegal substance knowing that the youth of our nation will be listening. In a way I feel like this is one smaller step in corrupting our country. From drugs to alcohol to the lack of education because it’s not cool, this is just another addition to the collection of stupidity that our society is racking up.

Celtics or Cavs????

The Celtics and Cavilers begin their seven game series tonight in the second round. The Celtics are hot right now coming off a 4-1 series win against the Miami Heat. The Celtics big three are averaging over 20 points combined with Paul Pierce as the leading scorer on the team. The Cavs have the best record in the league and coming over a easy 4-1 series win against the Chicago Bulls. The Cavs are led by two-time MVP LeBron James who averaged 30 points in the first round. This game is the most anticipated series in the Eastern Conference. My prediction is Celtics in six games.

The Illuminati conspiracy has been going around lately and has been discussed by the rich and famous. The Illuminati was started in 1766 and is similar to the Free Masons, which today are more curious about the meaning of the Craft in their lives. They want to understand more deeply the profound lessons of the ritual.

People like Jay Z, Swizz Beatz and Lady Gaga have been making headlines as their album covers and their choice of symbols have been analyzed. Even the greats that are not here with us like Michael Jackson and Tupac, the why they expressed their selves through their songs and covers of their albums, have some type of Illuminati symbols into them. For example, Tupac last album his cover album was of Tupac being crucified on the cross to show how the public crucified him. It is said that Michael Jackson was murdered only to dodging “Satanic rituals,” but still reluctant to “say too much” to Ed Bradley, Jackson, it seems, was about to blow the lid off the Illuminati conspiracy itself…or at least Aspartame."

The Illuminati to me seem to just be a bunch of drama being tossed around in the media. The way that artists dress or what the covers to the albums look like is their way of expressing themselves. Lady Gaga has a weird but sensual style to not only the way she dresses but also her music and it fits her personality.

Symbols are symbols but that doesn’t mean that if someone, anyone draws a symbol that is supposed to be linked to a cult, does it necessarily mean that the person is associated with the cult. It could be just because they liked the symbols or thought it would fit to their personality. I personal believe that this is just something new to give the public to gossip about. I don’t think that the people they say are involved and are workers for the devil to keep their power and fame have anything to do with the Illuminati conspiracy or for that matter anything beyond their own religious beliefs.

On Friday April 23, 2010 my sister asked me do I want to go with her to sing American Idol on the Xbox. I said yes but didn't know exactly what I was getting into. We arrived at her apartment and waited a little while for everyone to come. Before we begin playing, Ta'rea left the house to go get some vodka. As the night goes on my sister and her friends are getting drunker by the minute. My sister and I, with her two children, were the first ones to leave this party. She was doing pretty well until we got into this one road and she started going towards the left. A car came by and she veered to the right again. She kept doing that all night but we eventually made it to her house.

Rap superstar JAY-Z has dismissed online critics who have said that his videos are "devil worship" calling the rumors "silly" and "ignorant.”The hip-hop icon came under fire after the promo for his new single, 'On to the Next One,' debuted.

The video features ram skulls, black crows and dark imagery - and Jay-Z said he could not believe some of the outrageous slurs on his personal beliefs which have surfaced online.

He told the radio station Hot 97, “I don’t know where it started. I don’t know where it came from. I really think it’s really silly. For the record, I of course believe in God, but I believe in one God. If people must know my religious beliefs, I believe in one God. I don’t believe in religion. I don’t believe in Christians or Muslims. I think all that separates people. I think its one God. I think it’s all the same God, and I don’t believe in Hell.

"Am I a part of some sect or cult? That sounds stupid to me. It’s ignorant to even say, and I guess that’ll be the last time I address that. It’s ignorant to me”. Swizz Beatz, who features in the song, has backed the star - insisting critics are wrong to read too much into a music promo.

Swizz Beatz adds, "The video displays another level of art and creativity from two great minds: the director and Jay - and myself, bringing the collaboration together. (There's) no satanic ways around me and that's for sure (sic). I'm with Jay - I never see any of that stuff around him unless he's hiding something, which I doubt. That's silly stuff."

A lot of claims have been said about artist joining cults that worship the devil even though no artist have came out openly and said it. I have to agree that some of the videos and songs do show demonic symbols and resemblance, but that’s only because I sat down and REALLY watched/ listened to everything in the video and in the song. These people who are studding these videos and saying these things are looking just a little bit too hard. I have no problem with these people’s beliefs as long as they don't try to force it on me and everyone else. Everyone has the right to worship who and how they like and we have the right to join them and not to join them but it’s up to the person. People who say the artists are trying to bring us in to their religion must not be strong in their own! If you can't listen to music without feeling you are being converted then maybe you should not listen to music at all.

Whatch What You Say

So this week in my speech class we did this exercise called impromptu speeches. Impromptu speeches are when you have a topic and talk about it for at least 2 minutes off the top of your head. When it was my turn I was nervous but I quickly got over it because I enjoy speaking in front of my peers.

My friend went next and his topic was about people being gay. Although it was off top of his head and not thought out very well the things he said offended many people in my class. He touched on how being gay is a sin and how you will go to hell if your gay. I personally feel that God loves you just like you are.

He already knew weather you were going to be straight or gay when you were born. Being gay is not a disease, it’s not something that you can just turn on and off like a switch, it could be because of an experience that changed the way you look at men and women that caused you to be turned off by men and women.

Senior Alert!!!!!

Calling all seniors! As we all know, the class of 2010 is getting ready to throw on their caps and gowns and walk. It's time for them to graduate and they are more than hyped. The seniors are ready but before they walk, their are some neccessary things left before the big day. Here are some last minute tips and things you should know and be doing now as you prepare to for college. 1. Improve your note-taking skills.
   College lectures cover a lot of information and sometimes the lectures go at a fast speed. Develop your own form of shorthand and speed writing.

2. Familiarize yourself with the library.
   You'll be expected to do more thorough research than ever before in college. You'll need to discover how to find journal articles, government reports, and maybe even primary sources at some point.

3. Exercise critical reading skills.
   In college you will not only use more sources than ever before, but you'll also learn to analyze those sources. Learn to read with a critical eye.

4. Practice reading difficult books and chapters.
   You may get a big surprise when you open one of your college text books. Some are written in a language and style much like the texts you use in high school. Some are not. Many college texts are written by academics who use pretty advanced vocabularies and propose pretty complicated theories and concepts. Be aware of this, but don't panic about it. All you have to do is learn how to divide and conquer the reading.
5. Learn to use Microsoft Word or another word processor.
   You will have to write research papers on a more frequent basis than before. Things like footnotes and bibliographies should become second nature.
   
6. Follow Through with Financial Aid
   If you are planning to use some sort of financial aid such as loans, grants, or even scholarships, you should complete a lot of financial aid paperwork. This starts with theFAFSA, which is a federal-level form which establishes a file for you within the federal government system, but it doesn't end there! Each college has its own paperwork that establishes a file within that particular college.

   Each year, some students face a big surprise on move-in day, when they realize that their financial aid application is not complete. Students may complete some of the steps and believe they have done everything necessary—when, in fact, they have not.

   Once you believe you have done everything necessary when it comes to applying for financial aid, follow through with a phone call to a counselor. Ask them exactly where you stand and whether there will be a balance due on move-in day.

   7.Senior Year and College Mail

   During your senior year you will be bombarded with college recruitment mail. At first this is flattering, but eventually it becomes annoying. The problem is, students start to throw away everything when they become overwhelmed. This can be a big mistake!

   Once in awhile, some colleges will mail out information about scholarship opportunities that you hadn't expected and hadn't applied for. Small private colleges often do this. Why miss out on a great opportunity? Take the time to open your mail and do a quick evaluation before trashing it.

   So Seniors, get ready, get set, and go for it. You have less than five weeks before graduation and you have tons of things to fill those five weeks with. prom, finals, grades, and college acceptance letters are going to start flying so you need to stay up and on your toes with everything. One mistake could jepordize your whole future and that would pit you so far in a hole. So, be alert!

Why is it weird instead of different?

What's up this is your girl Raven Simone and my thing is why is it that just because someone does something in a different way then they must be weird. For example we have a bearded dragon in our science class and I gave it a bath and everyone had something to say about what I did. They called me weird and they also said unnecessary things. So my reaction was to tell them to shut up. In my opinion I think it is that they are scared to be themselves because of what people may say. So what the "weird" people do, the "normal" people want to do but just don't have the courage to.

For example if a person wants to be out going and they want to try new things like dressing in many colors, wearing their hair different, and wearing what makes them happy. Instead they stick to what is comfortable such as Jordans, Air Forces, Creative Recs and other name brands like that. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with these brands I just think if you’re just doing it because everyone else is and not because it’s what you like then that is where the problem comes in. It's a problem because you are following what other people do and not making a path for yourself. I'm going to leave you with this last bit of information. You can never look stupid with confidence.

"Y You Gotta Know"

Hey this your girl Makailya checking in on the topic "why you gotta know"? Remember when we were young and got popped for so called looking straight down our parent’s throat? Now think about that, could I be a doctor at the age of 7 ? No so how can I look down your throat? Why is it that when you’re having a good conversation somebody always I mean always got to come out of nowhere and butt in. I mean really were you talking to them? No, so there for why would they butt in. Then I hate when people try to get mad because you caught them and addressed the fact that they were eavesdropping. Now see me I do this all the time but the key is to not get caught and voice your opinion. I learned this technique years ago; and today I use it to my advantage at school and other places. It has gotten me out of many things and as well opened up a lot of opportunities. So the next time you want to ease drop remember these 5 easy tips:

1. Don't be obvious

2. Listen don't speak
3. Never ever voice your opinion while the target is around
4. Ease drop as much as you need to in order to gain truthful Info
5. If your caught just admit you were being noisy ( Why Lie)
